first time visitor information

You are always welcome at First Baptist Church of Rockford!

Making your very first visit to a church can be intimidating. We hope that will NOT be the case at First Baptist of Rockford.  The points below describe the format of our weekly services. We also suggest that you review our church’s philosophy of worship for a better understanding of the tone of worship that you will find at First Baptist. We truly do hope that you will visit with us soon, at any or all of the services described below.  We look forward to extending a warm and friendly welcome!

Feel free to call the church office if you have additional questions, or would like more information.

Adult Sunday School
Join us from 9:00AM to 10:00AM on Sunday in our church auditorium for Adult Sunday School! Click here for more information on the current series. The format of the Adult Sunday School hour is relaxed and provides opportunity for interaction.

The hour begins with an opening hymn followed by announcements given by our Pastor. After an opening prayer, the time is turned over to the designated Sunday School teacher(s) to bring that week’s lesson. Supervised childcare is provided for children under the age of three. An age-appropriate Sunday School program is provided for all children three years of age or older.

Sunday Fellowship Time
Between 10:00AM and 10:30AM, we meet in the lobby area of our church to enjoy a time of fellowship over coffee, tea, and pastry. This informal time provides a great opportunity to meet others in our church, visit with our Pastor, and/or tour the facility. Comfortable seating and warmth from a fireplace add to the pleasant and friendly atmosphere.

Sunday Morning Service
God-honoring prelude music begins at 10:25AM signaling everyone to make their way to the church auditorium. Following words of welcome, an opening Psalm is read from the pulpit. After an opening prayer, the congregation joins together to sings great hymns of the faith. An additional Scripture passage is read that relates to Pastor’s message. On many Sundays, the choir or a soloist will present a message in song.

Just prior to Pastor’s message, children age four through third grade are dismissed to Children’s Church. For more information on Pastor’s current message series, click here. After the service, our Pastor will greet people in the lobby area. The morning service concludes at or around Noon. People generally linger after the service to fellowship and encourage one another.

Sunday Evening Service
Join us at 6:00PM for our evening service that begins with an opening hymn followed by announcements. On many Sunday evenings, our music director will walk us through the words and background of a hymn to better understand and appreciate the message that it conveys. Pastor will open the Word to present a message that is always enlightening, challenging, and encouraging. Click here for information on childcare and junior church.

Wednesday Evening Prayer Service and Bible Study
The midweek service consists of an opening hymn followed by a Bible lesson presented by our Pastor. You will leave with more insight into God’s Word than you had on the way in! The format for the 20 to 30 minute lesson is comfortable and interactive. We then review the latest prayer list as a group and take prayer requests from the congregation. People are encouraged to break-up into small groups to pray, or may pray by themselves.

This service is a great spiritual encouragement in the middle of the week! During the service, children participate in the Kid’s 4 Truth program. Kids 4 Truth is a program that provides children with a tremendous opportunity to grow in their understanding of the Scriptures while also challenging them to grow in the Lord.

Again, we hope that you will visit soon! Please call the church office if you have additional questions or would like more information.
