James: The Epistle of a Working Faith
Saving faith is a working faith. That is the primary theme of the book of James. Although it considers many doctrinal themes, this letter from our Lord’s brother is extremely practical. So much so that some scholars place it in the category of Wisdom Literature along with Proverbs and the Psalms. Some have called James the epistle of practice. James would have agreed with John Bunyan that “the soul of religion is the practical part.” Written with a clear pastoral tone this little book has a greater frequency of commands than any other New Testament book. James’ purpose is clearly not so much to inform, but to command, exhort and encourage God’s people in their Christian walk. Please join us this Sunday morning at 10:30 as we apply James’ exhortations to live the Christian faith.
